Urška Horvat

cello

« […] de Luz has charisma in spades and accompanied by Urška Horvat’s on-stage musicianship, this becomes a characterful, often jaunty, duet between dancer and cellist. It was a highlight in an evening of many treasures. »

Reviews

« … Robbins’ Suite of Dances displayed dancer and dancemaker at their best. Joaquin de Luz, who recently retired from New York City Ballet, and the cellist Urška Horvat, who accompanied him, together transformed his solo into a memorable trio for his nuanced dancing, her musicality, and their subtle responses to each other. Anyone can achieve this, male or female, but it doesn’t happen often. »

[Barbara Newman, Dancing Times, April 2019]

« Like the man on whom the work was created, de Luz has charisma in spades and accompanied by Urška Horvat’s on-stage musicianship, this becomes a characterful, often jaunty, duet between dancer and cellist. It was a highlight in an evening of many treasures. »

[Graham Watts, Bachtrack, April 2019]

« The eventual winner (Urška Horvat) made an impact at once as someone passionately committed to the music. Master of her instrument technically, she used the resulting freedom to express her understanding of the music and her love of it. She was a serious player, and her absorption in the piece held the listener from the beginning. »

[Dame Gillian Weir, Music Club of London Young Musician Competition 2017]

« Urška played the 2nd and 3rd movements of Brahms Cello Sonata No 2 with real soul and intensity, and in the finale, a compelling attack and rhythmic drive. […] her playing was worth the whole competition. She also has a disarming modesty allied to great musical confidence, and her playing goes straight to the heart. »

British composers Robin Holloway and Peter Seabourne have instantly recognisable, distinctive voices which readily communicate and place them apart from many of their contemporaries. Their piano trios, in quite different ways, are both masterworks worthy of a wide audience, combining beauty, energy, wit, elegance and passion. They are complemented by Holloway’s luminous “Moments of Vision”, described as a “song cycle for speaker”, written originally for Sir Peter Pears.
